Lakeside Residence

This uniquely comprehensive residential landscape allowed the landscape architect meticulously handled both design and construction. Nestled on the shores of a small lake in the Lake Minnetonka region, this project is a testament to the seamless integration of modern living with the preservation of the natural environment.

Project Details:

  1. Ecosystem Sensitivity: One of the paramount considerations in this project was the utmost sensitivity to the existing ecosystem. The landscape architect meticulously studied the site to ensure that the design coexisted harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment. Our design not only respects the ecosystem but also enhances it.
  2. Stormwater Management Bridge: In a bid to maintain the existing stormwater flows and avoid disruption to the natural watercourse, a bridge was incorporated into the landscape. This bridge elegantly integrates with the design and fulfills the crucial function of preserving the site’s hydrological balance.
  3. Materials Palette: The project boasts a palette of consistent materials, including corten steel, stone, wood, and concrete. The strategic use of corten steel played a vital role in minimizing the need for footings, thereby minimizing disturbance to the existing trees and allowing the site to maintain a forested aesthetic.
  4. Wood Features: Natural elements are seamlessly integrated into the design. Wood cobbles made from black locust are used to create picturesque pathways, while wood slabs are transformed into functional benches. These elements evoke a sense of tranquility and are a nod to the site’s natural surroundings.
  5. Geometric Design: The landscape design embodies a geometric nature that highlights subtle shifts in the topography. These well-thought-out geometric elements echo the strong architectural lines of the home, creating a sense of continuity and visual harmony between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Project Goals:

  • Environmental Harmony: The primary goal of this project is to coexist harmoniously with the natural environment, preserving the delicate balance of the ecosystem while enhancing its beauty.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The landscape design is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, providing a picturesque backdrop for the residence.
  • Innovative Solutions: The project showcases innovative solutions, such as the use of corten steel, which reduce environmental impact and enhance the design’s sustainability.
  • Seamless Integration: The landscape seamlessly integrates with the architectural elements of the home, creating a cohesive and visually stunning living space.
  • Functional Spaces: In addition to its beauty, the landscape provides functional spaces for relaxation, contemplation, and outdoor activities.

Conclusion:

The Lake Minnetonka Lakeside Residence Landscape project is a testament to the opportunity of design/build. This project not only respects and enhances the natural environment but also showcases the potential of modern design to create a living space that is both functional and environmentally sensitive. It is a marriage of architecture and nature, where every element serves a purpose, and the result is a landscape that is both breathtaking and functional.
